Tolerance
What exactly is the meaning of tolerance? Tolerance is defined
as a fair and objective attitude toward others, and it is typically a conscious
effort on the part of the individual. It is the capacity to face and tolerate
something unusual or controversial without expressing negative feelings.
The term tolerance was derived from the Latin word tolerantia in
the early 15th century. This term was originally intended to endure suffering
or to offer assistance. Around the same period, it was also used as a French
word with a similar meaning. It was connected with its more contemporary sense
in 1765. Around this period, it came to signify a disposition to be free of
other people's judgement.
